Exploitation of games of chance and tourism in the Algarve motivates a lecture

Admission is free, but subject to registration.

«The exploration of games of chance and tourism in the Algarve» is the theme of the first conferences on Gambling Law, which will take place on October 31, at 18 pm, at the Instituto Superior Manuel Teixeira Gomes (ISMAT), in Portimao. This is a pioneer event in the Algarve.

The exploration of games of chance in the Algarve began in Portugal with the legislation of 1927. One of the first casinos in Portugal was precisely the one in Praia da Rocha.

Currently, the gaming sector continues to expand, having a significant impact on national tourism.

“It is therefore important to reflect on the current state of the industry and its regulatory framework. What are the main challenges that lie ahead? How has the gaming industry benefited tourism? What reforms are possible in this sector?” explains ISMAT.

These conferences will feature the presence and interventions of various personalities related to the subject, such as Jorge Godinho, collaborator of the ISMAT Law Course and specialist in Gambling History and Law, Joel Pais, administrator of Solverde, SA, and Managing Director of Solverde Units do Algarve, Carlos Costa, administrator of the Nau Hotels & Resorts Group, and José Pereira de Deus, inspector of the Gaming Regulation and Inspection Service.

In academic terms, this pioneering ISMAT initiative seeks to raise awareness of the multiple problems that gambling law poses. This is an interdisciplinary area, of particular interest in the Algarve, which is quite lacking in scientific research.
