Cristóvão Norte confesses a mixture of sadness and joy for another term in the Algarve

Algarve was the only constituency where PSD elected one more deputy

The PSD won another deputy in the Algarve, going from two to three terms. Cristovão Norte, who was the head of the list, confessed to Sul Informação to be experiencing a mixture of «sadness at the fact that, at national level, we cannot translate our political options by governing», which «flagrantly contrasts with the joy at the fact that the Algarve has granted us a greater number of mandates than we already had».

"I believe that we are the only electoral circle in which the PSD increases the number of mandates", he added, in statements to our newspaper.

In the Algarve, in addition to Cristóvão Norte, who thus returns to Parliament, two new deputies were also elected: Rui Cristina, from Loulé, and Ofélia Ramos, from Faro.

In the balance you made to the Sul Informação, Cristóvão Norte stressed that “the “campaign has some meaning”.

“An overwhelming band of voters vote for national issues, and only a residual band votes for local or regional issues, depending on a head of the list, a program, a few candidates, the regional board. National issues prevail,” he admitted.

Even so, the current deputy stressed that the PSD's campaign in the Algarve "was very close and has borne fruit, which translate into obtaining another mandate".

That mandate, he lamented, "will not serve us to govern, but, in terms of strengthening the PSD, at regional level, it is a matter of greater importance."

The Algarve's Social Democratic deputies will now "strengthen the scrutiny we will make of the executive", not forgetting their proposals: "new hospital and establishment of doctors, bet on mobility, namely on the railroad and the EN125, from Olhão to Vila Real de Santo António, diversification of the Algarve's economy, so that the region does not remain at a level of exposure that would put it in the forefront of a tsunami that can be verified with Brexit, and housing issues, which are essential at this moment».

“We are concerned about creating a better region” and guaranteeing the “need for the Algarve to be treated like other regions”, he concluded.
