Firefighters from Olhão celebrate 88 anniversary with new equipment

In total, the Municipality invested 170 thousand euros in the acquisition of these equipments.

The Municipal Fire Department of Olhão (CBMO) celebrates next Tuesday, 29 October, its 88th anniversary since its municipalization, in 1931. 

The celebrations take place on November 2, at the Bela Olhão municipal car park, to which, in addition to official entities, all firefighters and their families have been invited.

The celebrations of the 88th anniversary of the CBMO, on November 2nd, begin with the promotions of 12 volunteer firefighters who completed their internship, integrating the ranks of the CBMO with the 3rd category, followed by the delivery of the recognition trophies, relating to to 2019, to the elements that stood out at the service of the community.

On this day of celebration, the new equipment that the Municipality has acquired to provide the firefighters from Olhão with the best working conditions will also be presented.

The peacekeepers will thus receive state-of-the-art personal protective equipment (helmet, hood, structural firefighting suit, gloves, boots and facepiece), at the level of what is most innovative in international use.

The CBMO will also be offered a rescue screen, as well as various rescue support equipment, such as rescue hoods for victims in contaminated atmospheres. It is a unique equipment in the Algarve region and that still few corporations use nationally.

The Municipality will also deliver a thermal camera (drone) equipped with devices for relief, rescue and rescue operations.

In total, the Municipality invested 170 thousand euros in the acquisition of this equipment, demonstrating, in this way, its commitment to the safety of the men and women who help the population.

CBMO, as the county's main protection, aid and civil protection agent, has ensured, for 88 years, the safety of all the people of Olho, Algarve and Portuguese in general, as well as animal life and the surrounding environment.

This important municipal structure currently has, in its different staff (command, active, honor and fanfare), with 141 elements, 55 of which are employees of the Municipality and the remaining volunteers and has at its disposal a total of 37 fire fighting vehicles, support, ambulances, boats, motorcycles, machinery and trailers.

The current headquarters, located on Avenida Bernardino da Silva, will soon be replaced by a structure built from scratch, with all functional conditions and outside the urban core of the city.
