Sophia, Aleixo and Margarida Fonseca Santos at the 26th anniversary of the Portimão Library

There will be three days of celebration, with literature and music

“O Algarve de Sophia”, Fado Aleixo and Margarida Fonseca Santos will help the Manuel Teixeira Gomes Municipal Library (BMMTG), in Portimão, to celebrate its 26 years, on the 6th, 8th and 9th of November.

The cultural space from Portimo will celebrate another anniversary with five initiatives, starting with “O Algarve de Sophia”, at 14:30 pm on the 6th.
This will be a recital with poems and songs in tribute to Sophia de Mello Breyner, by Afonso Dias, which takes place within the scope of the Celebrations of the Centenary of the Birth of Sophia de Mello Breyner.

On the same day, but at 21 pm, the singer-songwriter Afonso Dias was once again the protagonist, this time in the show “Fado Aleixo”, a tribute to the great Algarve poet on the 00th anniversary of his birth (120).

“Fado Aleixo” «is a tribute to the most creative and shrewd of the Algarve poets – António Aleixo. Afonso Dias brings the poet Aleixo back to Traditional Fado, which he himself sang. An Algarvian, a popular hero, a superior poet», describes the Câmara de Portimão.

The party continues on November 8th and 9th, days that will be dedicated to the writer Margarida Fonseca Santos, «recognized author and much loved by the public who have a large part of her works in the National Reading Plan».

 

 

On the 8th, at 16 pm, the children's book writer will give a training action entitled “Write to read” aimed at librarian teachers, library technicians, teachers and educators. Registration must be made in advance at the Municipal Library.

At 21 pm on the same day, the Library hosts a free storytelling session for adults, starring Margarida Fonseca Santos.

On the 9th, a Saturday, at 16 pm, children and young people are invited to spend a lively afternoon in a new free storytelling session.

Margarida Fonseca Santos is the author of books such as “Altamente”, “O Boião Mágico” and “Uma Questão de Azul”, and of collections such as “O Reino de Petzet” and, co-authored with Maria João Lopo de Carvalho, “Os 7 Brothers”.

«In addition to writing for children, adults and theatre, he works in the area of ​​creative writing and mental training, something that remained from the time he was dedicated to Pedagogy and Musical Training. The “A Escolha É Minha” collection is the reflection of this entire journey», according to the Portimão Town Council.

The Manuel Teixeira Gomes Library has 18.500 registered users, has 80.000 documents available, has 175 daily users, has 50 children for each educational session, has 30 daily Wi-Fi accesses, has 50 daily internet queries and 70 daily borrowed documents.

This equipment supports the county's 16 school libraries and supports the National Reading Prize, the Manuel Teixeira Gomes Literary Prize and the Book Fair.
