Students and teachers from five countries volunteer in Olhão

Olhão hosted C4 activity of the Erasmus + KA2 project “Open your eyes and open your heart!”

Students and teachers from Portugal, Spain, Italy, Finland and Poland participated in a dynamic learning activity in Olhão by the EB I / JI José Carlos da Maia School, from the Professor Paula Nogueira School Group, between the 23rd and 27th of September.

The 60 participants in the European voluntary initiative C4 of the Erasmus + KA2 project “Open your eyes and open your heart!”, 40 students and 20 teachers, developed activities related to the theme “Volunteering in the environment” and participated in solidarity actions, namely « support for the distribution of food in the warehouse of the Food Bank Against Hunger of the Algarve and planting of vegetables in the organic garden of this institution, garbage collection between the islands of Culatra and do Farole delivery of toys and food, as well as help in the maintenance of the APAR animal shelter in Moncarapacho».

Volunteers also had the opportunity to get to know the region better and participate in leisure activities.

The young people took a walk through the “7 Suspended Valleys” in Lagoa and “a cruise to the islands of Armona, Culatra and Farol, with the collection of shells, with which they created tables which they then took to their respective countries».

A tour/game through the city of Olhão, using the “Actionbound” application, tree climbing in Albufeira's Aventura Park and a shadow theater, under the theme “Let's protect Nature”, with pieces produced and presented by each of the countries involved .

«All the students stayed in the houses of families from Olhano, having had the opportunity to visit the beaches and other places of interest in the region and to try the Algarve cuisine. As for the teachers, there was no lack of positive praise for the local cuisine, the beauty of the beaches and the variety of solidarity actions that were part of the program», according to the José Carlos da Maia school.

The next and last learning activity of this project will take place next May, in Alicante, Spain.
