Álvaro de Campos' Birthday Party joins Tavira to Glasgow to the ride of poetry

Also return to Álvaro de Campos Route, by tuk tuk

Fernando Pessoa made him born in Tavira, but put him to study in Glasgow. Years later, the two cities are united again, in a special initiative, from Scotland, but broadcast live on Facebook for everyone. It's the Álvaro de Campos Birthday Party, an event that returns this Tuesday, October 1st, and will fill Tavira with personal culture.

This collaboration with Glasgow is the big news for this year's edition of the event, which is once again organized by the association Partilha Alternativa.

The Exclusive Party for Álvaro de Campos will be on October 15th, from 19pm to 00pm, with the company Cheeky Besom, live at the Glasgow Literary Lounge. Everything will be broadcast live on Facebook.

For the rest, initiatives such as the Alvaro de Campos Route, by tuk tuk, are back, inviting you to visit poems by the heteronym of Fernando Pessoa around Tavira. Anyone who wants to participate must make an appointment.

The party starts this Tuesday, with the inauguration of the exhibitions “A Vila da Minha Infância”, at the Museu Casa Fotografia Andrade, “People/Pessoas”, at the Casa Álvaro de Campos, “Personae”, at the Tavira D'Artes Gallery , “Pessoa(s) from Tavira, at Clube de Tavira, “Imagens Revisitadas”, at Galeria Artesis, and “Imagens Pessoanas”, at A|Nafa.

For Tela Leão, president of the association Partilha Alternativa, this «will not be a noisy party».

“I like to think of this Feast as a poetic action, as dignified as the poet, delicate and without fanfare, but very beautiful”, he adds.

In terms of shows and cinema, the highlight was the visit of two Scottish poets to Tavira: Christine De Luca and Christie Williamson.

His poems will form a recital that includes Portuguese and Scottish piano music with Marcelo Montes, playing excerpts by Scots Craig Armstrong and James McMillan, and Portuguese Ruy Coelho and Luis Tinoco.

Casa Álvaro de Campos and Portuguese poets Pedro Jubilot and Vitor Cardeira thus welcome the Scots Christine De Luca and Christie Williamson. It will be on the 13th of October, at 18 pm, at the Clube de Tavira. At 00 pm, at Casa Álvaro de Campos there will be a farewell to the poets.

With young people from Tavira Secondary School, there will be “Poemas Encenados”, a theater workshop, on November 11th, at 18:30 pm.

In the films, one of the most awaited moments will be the screening of “Filme do Desassossego”, by João Botelho, a film inspired by the Livro do Desassossego that was even written by Bernardo Soares, another heteronym of Fernando Pessoa, but which also takes place at the Festa of the Years of Álvaro de Campos.

The initiative will take place on the 17th of November, at 21 pm, at the Clube de Tavira.

As for Teresa Rita Lopes, from the Algarve and one of the greatest scholars of Fernando Pessoa, she will be chatting on October 19, from 11:00 am, at Casa Álvaro de Campos.

Finally, Rádio Gilão starts broadcasting the daily program “Momentos de Poesia” on 1 October. Postal do Algarve will feature a daily feature entitled Um Month of Poetry, with texts and poems by Fernando Pessoa and his heteronyms.

O Sul Informação, in turn, is the media partner.
