Docapesca launches tender for new pier in Quarteira

The Quarteira Fishing Port was built between 1998 and 1999

Docapesca has just announced the launch of the tender for the preparation of the project for the construction of the new wharf, in Quarteira.

The base price of the execution project is 60 thousand euros. The objective is to launch the competition to start the work in 2020.

The future wharf will be implanted in the place where there was a floating wharf (nº 6) destined to the fishing vessels of the siege and that was removed for safety reasons.

This pier will be dimensioned for the mooring of larger vessels (between 20 and 25 meters in length), it will be 90 meters long and eight meters wide and will be deployed in the northeast corner of the port basin, bordering the existing discharge pier .

For the solution to be developed, Docapesca took into account the contributions of Quarpesca and the Parish Council of Quarteira, in close coordination with the Municipality of Loulé.

The fishing port of Quarteira was built between 1998 and 1999, located east of Vilamoura marina and west of Quarteira spur field. It has a fish unloading pier, adjacent to the auction building (southern end), with 70 meters of mooring area, and five floating pontoons with capacity for parking approximately 205 boats. Attached to this pier there is also a floating pier to support the unloading of fish from small boats.

The socio-economic importance of the port of Quarteira is significant at local and regional level. In 2018, the sale of 2.660 tonnes of fish (+22,2% compared to 2017) was registered in the auction, worth 7,1 million euros (+9,9%). The total average price was 2,66 euros per kilo.
