Five municipalities in the Algarve invite you to «Walk with us» in the European Mobility Week

There are free tours, sport activities, bicycles and public transport to enjoy.

Faro, Loulé, Portimão, São Brás de Alportel and Lagos will join the European Mobility Week (SEM), which starts next Monday, September 16th and runs until the 22nd. This year, the theme of the initiative is “Walk with us” (Walk with us).

In the Algarve capital, on the 16th, at 10:00 am, at the Salão Nobre da Câmara de Faro, the opening public conference will take place and program presentation of the European Mobility Week (SEM), which will include an activation fair, on the weekend of 21st and 22nd of September, under the theme of mobility, or experiences in the use of means of light mobility.

 


During the European Mobility Week, 20 new bicycle parking locations will also be inaugurated and, on the 19th of September, the Warm-up for the Portugal Mobi Summit on road safety. For the 21st, a talk is scheduled on “Contemporary mobility: the challenges of high competition”.

On the 22nd, European Car Free Day, Faro it will be one of the cities that will close some streets that are normally passable, as a measure of awareness and alert.

“Walk and Ride Safely” is the theme of the European Mobility Week, in Loulé.

"Have you been riding to school?" is the initiative that will take place, throughout the 18th, aimed at secondary schools and the 2nd, 3rd cycle of basic education in the municipality. With the aim of "involving the school community in the philosophy of this Week", the City Council launched an appeal for schools to encourage, on this day, students, teachers, animators or assistants to use the bicycle for their journey.

Also on this day, the training action “CAPTAME: Sustainable Mobility” will take place at Loulé Secondary School, from 14 pm to 00 pm, with the target audience of kindergarten teachers and primary and secondary education teachers, teachers from scientific areas that deal with the theme of climate change, those responsible for school media and teachers responsible for mountain biking groups-teams.

Also part of SEM, the 4th edition of the Seminar Loulé Adapta-Urban Mobility will take place. This initiative, which takes place on the 19th, in the Música Nova auditorium, from 9:00 am to 13:00 pm, will have a special focus on themes associated with pedestrian and cycling mobility, with the participation of speakers with reference work in the areas and sharing of best practices and cases of study. According to Loulé City Council, «one of the highlights of this week will happen on the 20th, with the realization of the “PARK(ing) Day – Occupy your place in the city”, in Praça da República».

This will be an exhibition and demonstration of products and services related to the themes of soft mobility, smart mobility, healthy lifestyles, energy efficiency, clean energy, reuse of materials, environmental sustainability and climate action, with spaces being made available for this purpose. in areas where vehicles are normally parked on a day-to-day basis.

At the end, on 22 September, the European Car Free Day will be celebrated in Praça da República, with the realization, between 9:00 and 17:00, of activities to promote and encourage the gentle manners.

Already in Lagos, the City Council will present a series of initiatives “aimed at alerting citizens to the environmental impacts on health and urban areas and seeking to present alternative and sustainable mobility solutions”.

Throughout the week, some commercial spaces for the sale and rental of bicycles will have discounts and attractive prices and, on the 22nd, European Car Free Day, residents of Lagos will have free rental at the Lagos Bike Tours and Rent a Bike – Passeios do Sudoeste establishments .

On September 17, between 10:00 and 17:00, the Centro Ciência Viva de Lagos will promote a series of activities related to sport.

The walks will be highlighted this week with walking tours around the city, from 16 to 20 September (from 15:30 pm to 17:00 pm), on a 4,1 km route, "suitable for the whole family", entitled "Lagos dos Descobrimentos", having as meeting point at Praça Gil Eanes.

 


On the 22nd, between 17:00 and 20:00, as in the previous year, there will be a walk at sunset, from the Anel Verde to the Ponta da Piedade Walkways where, according to the municipality, «there will be no lack of physical activities, Tai Chi sessions and a Sunset Drink next to the Farol ».

The younger ones will have advantages, which aim to encourage the use of bicycles, skateboards, rollerblades and scooters. 2nd and 3rd cycle students at Escola das Naus and Tecnopolis will be entitled to gifts and offers if they use these means of transport to school.

On the 21st, they will also have the right to participate in a demonstration and get together with skaters at Skate Parque de Lagos.

Also, to promote the sporting activity of citizens, users who arrive on foot or by non-motorized vehicle at the Lagos Sports Complex will be able to use some services free of charge and will also have a discount on the October monthly fee.

Throughout the week, the urban transport “A Onda” will be free, and on the 22nd, the Lagos Tourist Train will also be free, for tours around the city.

In Portimão, the program of activities planned for the European Mobility Week, which will culminate with the European Car Free Day in Alvor, «aimed at raising awareness about walking and using bicycles as mobility options with clear benefits for the for health and the environment'.

In this sense, in the year in which Portimão becomes the European City of Sport, on 14 September, the first stage of the 1st Cycle Pedalar pela Vida will take place between Portimão and Monchique, while the second stage will take place on the 21st. , between Portimão and Sagres, both integrated in the program Setembro Amarelo – Month for the Prevention of Suicide and raising awareness of this problem.

For the 15th of September, the 8th Annual Antique Bike Tour is scheduled, promoted by the Cycling Center of Portimão, which invites «everyone to get into the spirit of the European Mobility Week».

«In order to enhance the use of public transport», the Vai e Vem – Urban Circuit of Portimão, will be free on the 20th, 21st and 22nd of September.

Since the invitation for this edition of the European Mobility Week is “Walk with us”, the City of Portimão got into the spirit and invites, on the 19th of September, to “Walk through the City”, under the guidance of a technician from the Sports Division of the Municipality of Portimão. The walk is scheduled for 18:30 pm, with a duration of 60 minutes, and starts at the Pavilhão Gimnodesportivo Municipal de Portimão, with no prior registration required.

On the night of September 20, there will be another walk, this time at night, through a historical and cultural route, entitled “À Descoberta de Portimão”. This tour will take participants to discover the urban landscapes, guided by techniques from Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes. This activity is scheduled to start at 21 pm, next to the bandstand at Praça Manuel Teixeira Gomes, and is subject to limited prior registration, by calling 00 or at Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes.

In Portimão, on the European Car Free Day, 22 September, the proposal is to go on a… boat. On this day, it will be possible to take a trip on a solar boat, in an action entitled “Across the margins of the Arade History”, in partnership with Algarve Sun Boat, at a special price. This activity enables «the discovery of the rich history of Portimão from the Arade estuary», accompanied by a technician from the Portimão Museum.

However, the September 22 program will have its epicenter in Alvor, «in order to lead the population and tourists to (re)discover the center of the village, free of car circulation, returning some of its main arteries to the local population to its enjoyment, with many recreational, cultural and sporting activities», advances the Portimão Chamber.

For this purpose, car traffic will be closed on September 22, between 10:00 am and 20:00 pm at Rua Vasco da Gama, at Rua Pedro Álvares Cabral, at Rua Dr. Frederico Ramos Mendes, at Rua D. João II, at Rua D. João II, at Rua Pedro Álvares Cabral Rua do Castelo, Rua Padre Mendes, Rua Dr. Afonso Costa, Rua 1º de Dezembro, Rua dos Pescadores, Rua de São João and Rua Maria Teresa J. Finally, in Sao Bras de Alportel, on the 24th of September, to mark the European Mobility Week, Rua Dr. Alberto de Sousa, next to Skate Park, will be closed to traffic and will be occupied by «diverse activities and sports entertainment».
