Candidate of the CDS-PP considers that «the Algarve Line does not serve the Algarve»

Centrists were campaigning in Quarteira and Lagos

João Rebelo, candidate of the CDS-PP, for the Algarve, considers that the «Linha do Algarve does not serve the Algarve, when they have to spend as much time to go by train from Lagos to Tavira as they do to go from Faro to Lisbon by car».

The centrists, who passed by Lagos Station, this Wednesday, September 25, in a campaign action, recall, in a note sent to the newsrooms, that «during the last four years, the CDS has repeatedly confronted the Government with the lack of as an alternative for the Algarve to the EN125 and Via do Infante. The railway could be that alternative, but the electrification of the Algarve line, announced by the socialist government for the second quarter of 2019, has not been completed».

The CDS-PP also points out that «the lack of rail-road connections at the various stops and stations, the non-investment in rolling stock and the cutting of trains, even in summer, do not leave the Algarve any other remedy than roadways, they too have the serious problems that are known».

Before going to Lagos, where they visited the company Congelagos, the CDS candidates for the Algarve were in Quarteira, in the fish, fruit and vegetable markets and also in Docapesca.

According to the CDS, «in contact with fishermen, João Rebelo and the other candidates of the CDS heard reports of various problems that this class faces in its daily work, from problems more linked to the sector and fisheries policies, to others directly linked with the enormous bureaucratic burden that is required of them and with the high taxation».
