Algarve Biomedical Center presents a pioneering project to teach how to use health services online

Project starts in Loulé, but will extend to the whole Algarve in 2020

A pioneering project in Portugal that aims to train and support citizens, especially the elderly, to know how to use online health services, such as booking appointments, requests for electronic prescriptions or requests for documents, will be presented on the 18th of September , at 11:30 am, at Palácio Gama Lobo, in Loulé.

It is "a commitment to health literacy, which aims to avoid unnecessary trips to institutions, which are freed up, thus, for cases that require face-to-face care."

The project is designed by the Algarve Academic Research and Training Center (ABC – Algarve Biomedical Center), which will implement it in partnership with the Municipality of Loulé and the Shared Services of the Ministry of Health.

The project starts in Loulé, but will extend to the entire Algarve in 2020, and it is expected that, in the last quarter of next year, it could be implemented in the rest of the country.

From the 18th, ABC will start training people in the municipality of Loulé, who will, in turn, attend parish councils, IPSS, homes, health institutions, schools, where they will teach those who have the possibility to use directly new technologies, but does not know how to do it. These people will also train, in these places, people who will always be available to provide these services to those who have no contact with technology.

The objective of the ABC is to combat health illiteracy, improving access to information, especially for the most vulnerable populations, whether due to age or geographic isolation.
