The tradition of the Holy Bath will be revived at Praia da Manta Rota, at 11:00 am, through a historical recreation that will remember the influx of people from the mountains and their pack animals to this bathing area, on the 29th of August, to take a bath in the sea, which, they believed, had the gift of cleaning up all ills.
This will be the highlight of the summer festivities in honor of São João da Degola and will bring together dozens of extras on the beach, who will be fully dressed and will bring a picnic, as the ancients did on this day, when, according to history, São John the Baptist was beheaded.
The historical recreation that has kept this tradition alive is provided by the association A Manta, in partnership with the City Council of VRSA.
