PAN wants the Chamber of Olhão to sterilize homeless animals again

PAN says that the associations, informal groups and animal-friends have been doing all the work.

The PAN- People – Animals – Nature wants the City Council of Olhão to reactivate the program for the Capture, Sterilization and Return (CED) of abandoned animals in the municipality as of September and «with full commitment».

According to this party, there is "a serious problem of overpopulation of stray animals in the municipality" to which the municipality is not responding, namely through the implementation of "ethical population control measures".

“Although many colonies have already been identified by the associations – information that the Chamber has access to -, the CED program has not been implemented by the municipality for more than three years,” they say.

The associations, informal groups, caregivers and caretakers who do not lower their arms are the ones who "collect, treat and care about the animals left unattended, transport them to the veterinary clinics and return them", although this is not a responsibility your.

In other words, there is much to be done before “the municipality can finally become an example of good practices in animal protection and welfare”.

The most urgent measures, in the view of the PAN, are, in addition to the reactivation of the CED programme, the financing of the associative movement "coherent with reality" and the provision of people and resources by the municipality, "instead of relying only on work and goodwill of associations and informal groups of voluntary caregivers'.

«Reviewing, with the involvement of those who are aware of reality, the project of the new Official Animal Collection Center (CROA) so that it is in line with the real needs of the municipality and principles of Animal Welfare» is another suggestion of this broken.
