Joni Brandão, Efapel cyclist, is the new Yellow Jersey, after the demanding stage of the Volta a Portugal that today linked Bragança to Montalegre. The former Sporting/Tavira athlete jumped to the front of the general standings, but has the Algarve João Rodrigues (W52 – FC Porto), the 2nd ranked, with the leg, just a second away.

Who lost was Gustavo Veloso, who after several days rolling in yellow, lost the first position fell to the 3rd position overall. This dictated that Vicente de Mateos, from Aviludo-Louletano, is now the 4th place, after seven stages, despite having gained a few seconds over the previous leader of the race.

This Thursday's 156,2 kilometer stretch ended in Serra do Larouco, at an altitude of 1.500 meters, in an environment of rain, cold and wind. The first to cross the finish line was Luis Gomes (Rádio Popular/Boavista), followed by Hugo Sancho (Miranda – Mortágua) and Mathias Reutimann (Swiss Racing Academy), respectively.

João Rodrigues came 14th, right after Joni Brandão, who was to win the Yellow Jersey. The Efapel cyclist finished 11 seconds before the Algarve. Vicente de Mateos finished the stage in 21st and lost the 3rd place in the general that he had been holding for days. After stage seven, the Aviludo-Louletano rider drops to 4th in the individual overall and is 31 seconds behind leader Joni Brandão and 30 seconds behind.

Gustavo Veloso, who lost the Amarela in this run and dropped to 3rd, 15 seconds behind the leader, was closer to Vicente de Mateos, but continues ahead of algarvian.

The race leader seems to have accused the fall yesterday, at the end of the 6th stage, which linked Torre de Moncorvo to Bragança. The mishap ended up having no consequences, in terms of classification, as it happened less than three kilometers from the finish line, which allowed those involved to have the same time as the main group.
