Joaquina Matos has “full confidence” in her team to continue her work in Lagos

Joaquina Matos succeeds current vice president Hugo Pereira, an economist

«I have full confidence, because we, in Lagos, are a team and over the years we have grown as such», said Maria Joaquina Matos, still president of the municipality, who will soon suspend her term for being part of the list of candidates for PS deputies in the next Legislative Elections.

Joaquina Matos succeeds the current vice president Hugo Pereira, an economist. "It is the new generation" that now reaches the top of the autarchy, he underlined, in declarations to the Sul Informação.

To fill the missing place in the permanent executive team of the Chamber, another woman, Sandra Oliveira, who was number six on the socialist list for the municipality, will have to join.

Maria Joaquina Matos is halfway through her second term as mayor of Lagos. As he told our newspaper, the invitation to join the list of candidates for deputies for the PS, in the Algarve circle, where it occupies the 3rd position, came in the form of a “challenge”. «It was a challenge that my party threw me and that I accepted».

The mayor will have to ask for the suspension of her mandate until 26 August, so that she can dedicate herself to the electoral campaign. If elected, she will still momentarily return to the Chamber, after the Elections of 6 October, but only to pass the portfolio to Hugo Pereira.

Joaquina Matos is number four on the list of the PS to the Legislative, for the Algarve, right after the head of the list Jamila Madeira, the Secretary of State for Fisheries José Apolinário and his fellow mayor Jorge Botelho, from Tavira. He is followed by Luís Graça (deputy and president of the PS Algarve and of the Municipal Assembly of Faro). Even if the socialists do not increase their vote, they must at least elect four deputies in the Algarve region.
