Botelho and Joaquina exchange Chamber presidencies for the Assembly of the Republic

The name of the two mayors is the big news on the PS list, which will be headed by Jamila Madeira

Jorge Botelho and Joaquina Matos, mayors of Tavira and Lagos, respectively, will integrate the PS list to the Assembly of the Republic in the October Legislatures, in an eligible seat. The head of the list will be Jamila Madeira, current deputy and vice-president of the Parliamentary Group of Socialists.

The PS Algarve political commission announced today, Monday, the names that will join Jamila Madeira, head of the list indicated by the PS secretary general and prime minister António Costa.

«Approved by an expressive majority, the PS list in the Algarve will also have José Apolinário (current Secretary of State for Fisheries), Jorge Botelho (President of the Municipality of Tavira and AMAL – Algarve Intermunicipal Community), Joaquina Matos (president of the Municipality of Lagos), Luís Graça (deputy and president of the PS Algarve and of the Municipal Assembly of Faro), Ana Passos (deputy and president of Socialist Women-Equality and Rights), Francisco Oliveira (lawyer and leader of the socialist caucus in the Albufeira Municipal Assembly), Célia Paz (alderman of the Vila Real de Santo António City Council) and Abel Matinhos (university student and president of the regional structure of Socialist Youth)», revealed the socialists.

The list of PS candidates for the Algarve, which will be confirmed tomorrow by national bodies, also includes José Pedro Cardoso (civil engineer and chief of staff of the Portimão mayor, indicated in the list of socialists as «mayor»), Ana Sofia Belchior (lawyer and mayor in Silves), José Luís Domingos (agrarian engineer and president of the Municipal Assembly of Castro Marim), Helena Martiniano (banker and councilor of the Monchique City Council) and António Francisco Pina (retired education inspector and former president Algarve), all of them as alternates.

The PS national secretary and president of the Portimão City Council, Isilda Gomes, will once again be the regional representative of the candidacy, as was the case in 2015.

The name of Jamila Madeira as head of the list for the Algarve had already been advanced yesterday by a national leader of the PS to the Lusa agency, so the Sul Informação he tried to speak with both the first socialist candidate and Luís Graça to confirm the information, but without any success.
