Groups from ten countries help make the folklore party in Faro (And not only)

Festival has its main component in Faro, but also in Loulé, Olhão, São Brás de Alportel, Tavira and Vidigueira

the folkFaro once again bringing groups from various parts of Portugal and ten other countries to the Algarve, between the 17th and 25th of August, and acting as Faro the capital of folklore and ethnography.

The 17th edition of this festival, the largest of its kind in southern Portugal and a reference at regional and national level, starts on Saturday, the 17th, with the already traditional Opening Gala, which brings together six of the international formations invited to the host, the Group folk from Faro, which organizes the event.

The gala will be attended by the groups Asociación “Nuestras Raíces” (Rosario – Santa Fé, Argentina), National Folkloric Ballet Jaime Orozco (Bogotá, Colombia) FS Rozmarija (Presov, Slovakia), Danzas Adolfo de Castro Group (Cádiz, Spain ), Ensemble Sanyo Daiko Dan (Hiroshima, Japan) and Penfolk Sarfolk (Pendik – Istanbul, Turkey).

In addition to these "inner time" formations, other groups will come from across borders, for "one-off participations on the stage of Passeio da Doca", according to the City Council of Faro, which supports the organization of the event.

Thus, the public can also count on Folk Group Kompanija (Boguchwala, Poland), Compañia Nacional de Danza Folklórica (Mexico City, Mexico), BAFUT (Universidad de Tarapacá, Chile) and Cho Shui River Art ( Yunlin, Taiwan).

As always, different regions of Portugal will also be represented, namely the Folklore Group of Barcelinhos (Baixo Minho), CP Arcena Folklore Group – VF Xira (Ribatejo), S. Salvador de Grijó Folklore Group – VN Gaia (Douro Litoral) and the Sambrasense Typical Ranch (SB Alportel).

These will be the protagonists of the many shows provided for in the festival's program, which will also feature "numerous activities, in what is one of the most awaited events in the cultural summer of the Algarve capital".

 

 

The daily shows in Faro, on the Stage of Passeio da Doca, take place on the nights of 18 to 25 August, simultaneously with the Feira dos Doces, Dried Fruits and Regional Drinks.

«On each of these nights, various foreign groups will act successively, and there will also be room for other artistic expressions, with some special participations: Clube de Danças João de Deus and Associação S. Brás Bailando and Sandra Cristo (interpreter of the Anthem of FolkFaro – “United for a Loop”)”, according to the municipality of Faro.

But the festival will not stop at the historic center of the capital of the Algarve. As has been happening for some years, the participating groups will also work in the different parishes of Faro and in other municipalities in the region and the Alentejo, namely in Loulé, Olhão, São Brás de Alportel, Tavira and Vidigueira, in a total of 15 locations.

«Several Folk GroupsFaro will participate in the Moncarapacho and Luz de Tavira festivals, in partnership with local folklore groups. The partnership with the Festival de Danzas de Villablanca (province of Huelva – Faro), with the sharing of international groups between the two festivals», explained the Chamber.

Street entertainment, downtown and in the Municipal Market, parades of groups from Pontinha to Passeio da Doca, initiatives at the Moto Clube de Faro and at “Tertúlia Algarvia”, special programs for children at the Library and at Refúgio Aboim Ascensão, programs for the elderly at various institutions and a special program for inmates at the Prison are other proposals by FolkFaro.

Also within the scope of the festival, daily dance workshops will be held at Escola EB 2,3 Santo António, which «will allow the most curious to learn and practice a little of the dances of the world through the groups that visit us».

"The Ecumenical Celebration in the Church of the Sé, on the last day, with a message of peace and unity among peoples, is also a reason for the interest of this festival," added the Chamber of Faro.

Also supporting the event are the Algarve Culture Department, the Inatel Foundation, the Municipalities of Loulé and São Brás de Alportel, the Parish Councils of the municipality of Faro, the Municipal Theater of Faro, the Ayuntamento de Villablanca, Fagar and the Municipal Market.
