The Alentejo canoeist team up in C2 with Crestuma athlete

Canoeists Bruno Afonso and Marco Apura, from the Nautical Clubs of Mértola and Crestuma, enter the competition this morning, at 10:21 (Portuguese time), in the Canoeing World Championship, which began on August 20, in Szeged, Hungary. Athletes will compete in C2 1000 meters.

Speaking to the website of the Portuguese Canoeing Federation, the canoeists stated that they are confident about the work of the last few months and assured that they will give their best.

“We are confident that we can get a good result. An excellent result would be to qualify. If we don't make it, from then on, all places will count and the closer we get to the final the better”, summarizes Bruno Afonso, assuming that “the progression has been good, especially since we started working with Jaroslav”.

According to Marco Apura, “the main perspective for the World Cup is to get a place for the Olympic Games”. To do so, remembers the canoeist, “my partner and I have to reach 8th place in the A final”.

“This year, we managed to have a good level of competitiveness. Since the European Games, we've managed to improve and we'll do even better at the Worlds”, transmits Bruno Afonso.

The World Championship is also an Olympic qualifier, with the top eight classified in the A final, in C2 1000m, guaranteeing their presence in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
