António Costa: Algarve «is the most critical region» in the fuel strike

The Council of Ministers will meet this afternoon to assess the need to even move towards a civil requisition

The Algarve is "the most critical region" in the fuel strike that started this Monday, August 12th, admitted prime minister António Costa, after a meeting with the President of the Republic, at the Belém Palace.

Costa spoke to journalists after this meeting with Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, where he also revealed that “unfortunately, there has been a situation of non-compliance” with minimum services.

Therefore, the civil requisition may even be decided by the Government. “The military of the Armed Forces are already pre-positioned”, admitted António Costa.

As for the question of the Algarve being heavily hit by this strike, it is no wonder, at a time when the region is tripling its population, with the many tourists looking for these places.

Like the Sul Informação already reported, there are closed fuel pumps and even some stations of the Strategic Supply Network are dry.

Speaking to journalists, António Costa revealed that he had already indicated that the PSP and the GNR should transport fuel.

The fact is that, after a morning in which the minimum services were fulfilled, the 14:30 shift had a lot of failures, increasing non-compliance.

For the rest, the Council of Ministers will meet, this afternoon, to assess the need to even move towards a civil requisition.
