The Algarve cyclist João Rodrigues, from W52-FC Porto, continues in the fight for victory in the 81st Volta a Portugal, which is close. The 8th stage of the race, which took place today and linked Viana do Castelo to Felgueiras, was won by João Benta (Rádio Popular-Boavista), closely followed by Jóni Brandão (Efapel), in the yellow jersey, and by João Rodrigues, who they finished the take at the same time.

Not far away, in seventh position in the stage, was Vicente de Mateos, from Aviludo – Louletano, who holds, in this way, the 4th position overall, although he lost time for the first two classified, being now 34 seconds behind the leader.

Gustavo Veloso (w52 – FC Porto), who wore yellow for several days and who yesterday lost the most desired shirt to Jóni Brandão, remains in 3rd overall – ended with the same time as Vicente de Mateos.

In today's stage, Frederico Figueiredo, from Sporting – Tavira, who came in 4th place and occupies the tenth place overall, 2 minutes behind Jóni Brandão, is also worth mentioning.

Tomorrow, the cyclists will face a stage that could be decisive, between Fafe and the top of Senhora da Graça, in Mondim de Basto. In this run, the goal coincides with a first category mountain count (8,7 km to 7,4%). Before that, there are still the climbs to the top of Barra (km 72,5) and Barreiro (km 96), also first class.
