Four triathletes from the Algarve will represent the region and Portugal in the Ironman World Championship 70.3, which will take place in Nice, France, from 6 to 8 September.

Carlos Cabrita and Nuno Neves, both from Loulé, the veteran Fernando Damas, from Vila do Bispo, and Liliana Veríssimo, from Portimão, are the Algarve representatives in a Portuguese contingent of 14 athletes, who will compete in this competition, which brings together around four thousand of triathletes from all over the world.

In Ironman 70.3, athletes are then challenged to do 1,9 kilometers (km) of swimming, 90 km of cycling and 21,1 km of running.

This part of triathlon is also known as Half Ironman, as participants only have to cover half the distance, in each sport, compared to the original Ironman. 70.3 is a reference to the sum of the distances covered, in miles.
