Hotel Trade Union launches regional strike notice for 1st of August

At 16:00 pm on that day, a concentration is scheduled, in Faro

This Monday, 15th of July, the Union of Hotelaria do Algarve issued a pre-notice of a regional strike for the 1st of August.

In an attempt to avoid calling a regional strike for the entire sector of hotels, restaurants and similar in the Algarve, as had already been announced, the Federation of Agriculture, Food, Drinks, Hotel and Tourism Unions of Portugal (FESAHT) and the Union questioned the employers' associations AIHSA – Association of Hotel and Similar Industries of the Algarve and AHETA – Association of Hotels and Touristic Enterprises of the Algarve.

Only, according to the union, "the employers refuse to change their intention to maintain low wages, aggravate precariousness, increase and deregulate hours, withdraw payment for overtime work, stop paying work on holidays, among other rights" .

This position is seen as "unacceptable" by the Union, which, therefore, decided today to proceed with the legalization of a day of strike for 1 August "so that workers can strike at work on that day and come out to the streets to demonstrate their discontent".

The Union of Hotelaria do Algarve guarantees that it will carry out a «major campaign to publicize and mobilize workers for this important day of regional struggle», appealing «to all workers so that they do not miss this opportunity to demonstrate their discontent and their strength , stopping work».

At 16:00 pm on that day, a concentration is scheduled, in Faro, next to the Union's headquarters, for which «transport from Alcoutim to Aljezur will be made available».

Workers may register «with union leaders and delegates or directly at the headquarters or at the delegations in Portimão and Vila Real de Santo António».
