Rhythms from around the world together in São Teotónio All Stars

Project has the musical coordination of António Amaral

Music sung in Indian, Bulgarian, Nepalese, Spanish and Portuguese (with a Brazilian accent), accompanied by different rhythms. This is the brief description of São Teotónio All Stars, the multicultural group that premiered in concert at FACECO, the fair that ended this Sunday in this town in the municipality of Odemira.

The group, with the motto "music is a universal language", results from the work developed by TAIPA – Cooperative Organization for the Integrated Development of the Municipality of Odemira, through its GiraMundo (aimed at immigrant integration) and ST.E7G (directed) projects to younger migrants, under the Choices/ACM programme).

The new musical project is formed by children (the youngest is 5 years old), young people and adults, of different nationalities, namely Portuguese, Brazilian, Spanish, Indian, Nepalese and Bulgarian. They all have one thing in common: they live in São Teotónio, where they work or study.

The group is under the musical coordination of António Amaral, a musician based in the neighboring municipality of Aljezur and who has collaborated, for example, with the productions of «Lavrar o Mar».

"What we want to do is a crossover between the diverse cultures of these immigrants and the local culture," António Amaral told Sul Informação.

Tânia Santos, responsible for the ST.E7G project, explained to our newspaper that, to "promote integration through art", several creative workshops have been organized, bringing together young Portuguese and other nationalities present in São Teotónio.

The result of these first workshops, within the scope of the “From Earth to Heaven” project, can be seen in this video:

«We've already had workshops on dance and movement, theater, waves and rhythms, moving images and now this one on music», which culminates precisely with the creation of the São Teotónio All Stars group.

«This year, we decided to make the group grow, promoting the marriage between the ST and Giramundos projects. And that's where the creation of the São Teotónio All Stars resulted,” he added.

In total, according to António Amaral, the group has already developed “five themes”, with music, dance, rhythms, sung in several languages and incorporating contributions from members of various nationalities.

"We are also trying to establish a partnership with Grupo Coral de Odemira," added António Amaral.

After their debut performance in their homeland, São Teotónio All Stars will perform in concert next weekend, at the Rogil Book Fair (Aljezur).

And does São Teotónio All Stars intend to edit their music on disk? "Let's see," replied António Amaral.
