This July, the Portimão Health Center was reinforced with five doctors of General and Family Medicine, which will make it possible to extend the assistance coverage of proximity health care to around 9500 users, «in one of the municipalities in the western Algarve with greater difficulty in securing doctors'.
According to the Algarve Regional Health Administration (ARS), with the hiring of the five clinicians, 85% of the population of the municipality of Portimão will be assigned a Family Doctor.
«The increase in the number of health professionals and the opening of two new Family Health Units (USF) in the municipality of Portimão were some of the factors that contributed to significantly improve the coverage rate, having exceeded 58% of users with a health care doctor. assigned family, in 2015, to 85% in 2019 with assigned family doctor», highlights the ARS.
With these new professionals, the Portimão Health Center now has a total of 29 General and Family Medicine doctors, covering approximately 59.633 registered users and who are part of the Personalized Health Care Unit (UCSP) of Portimão, the USF Portas do Arade, the USF Atlântico Sul and the health centers of Alvor and Mexilhoeira Grande.
ARS Algarve explains that these professionals are part of the group of 20 new General and Family Medicine doctors, hired under the competitive procedure for the recruitment of medical staff for the assistant category, in the General and Family Medicine area.
The clinicians were received at the beginning of July by Paulo Morgado, president of the Board of Directors of ARS Algarve, for the signing of an employment contract in public functions for an indefinite period with ARS Algarve.
