Young people fight for the creation of a center that protects the Algarve's chameleons

Project is one of the proposals of the 2019 Participatory Youth Budget

The creation, in the Algarve, of a center to help protect and get to know chameleons better is one of the proposals that is being voted on in the Participatory Budget (OP) Jovem Portugal 2019.

O project was presented by a group of young people «with the clear mission of saving the Algarve's chameleons» and foresees the construction of the Center for Recovery and Research of the Algarve's Camaleão, a project with an estimated cost of 60 thousand euros.

«The common chameleon, in Portugal, only exists on the Algarve coast and the survival of this species is threatened by the fragmentation of the territory, as well as by constant trampling and illegal captures», according to the authors of the proposal.

The construction of CRICA – Camaleão do Algarve Recovery and Research Centre, Proposal No. 50 of OP Jovem 2019, would allow “to reverse this situation”.

At this time, and until 4 August, the national public voting takes place, through the Youth OP portal or sending a free sms message.

In the latter case, young Portuguese citizens and young foreigners residing in Portugal, between 14 and 30 years old, who want to vote on this proposal, must send an SMS (free of charge) to 4310 with the following text: 50 Card number Full citizen I authorize (example: 50 123456781ZY6 I authorize).
