This year's edition of Serra de São Brás de Alportel Fair, which took place from the 25th to the 28th of July, received more than 38 thousand visitors, breaking «all records».

"The enormous diversity of spaces and activities for different tastes and ages, the genuineness preserved in handicrafts and local products, the innovation revealed in the multiple entrepreneurship projects, the concern with accessibility for all that extends to the entire area, comfort and safety are certainly some of the ingredients of the growing success of this event», says the Chamber of São Brás.

“At the end of these four days of strong emotions, the feeling is one of accomplishment and gratitude,” said Vítor Guerreiro, mayor of São Brás.

The mayor leaves “a very heartfelt thanks to all those involved who made the success of this 2019 Serra Fair possible: artisans, producers, entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs, associations, entities, young volunteers, animators, artists, a team of nurses from the emergency room, Republican National Guard and Volunteer Firefighters».

«Thanks to all the sponsors who contributed to the success of this edition. To the São Brasense community, we would like to thank you for your active participation and involvement in this Feira da Serra, which is a source of pride for all of us. Finally, a very special thanks to the entire team of the City Council of São Brás de Alportel, tireless and dedicated workers… to all teams from the most diverse areas», he adds.

In a four-day format, from the 25th to the 28th of July, «this event, which is already a reference in the Algarve summer animation calendar, has once again opened its doors with the best and most genuine production in the region, assuming increasingly the meeting point for local and regional entrepreneurship», says the municipality.

The official opening ceremony of the event, on Thursday, July 25, was attended, for example, by the Secretary of State for Civil Protection José Artur Neves and the godfather of the 2019 edition of Feira da Serra Vitor Neto, also chairman of the board of NERA, Business Association of the Algarve Region.

After visiting the event, the Secretary of State noted that it was an event that transmits the traditions of the rural environment, of the mountains that persist to this day. "We feel here a project for the future and a bright future for this land", he stressed.

On the occasion, João Fernandes, president of the Algarve Tourism Region, praised the tourist potential of São Brás de Alportel “Open Door to the Mountain, Window over the Sea”; while Jorge Botelho, president of AMAL – Comunidade Intermunicipal do Algarve underlined the importance of Feira da Serra, as a regional event of growing importance.

In this event where the past and the present come together to build a better, more sustainable and identity future, the São Brás de Alportel Commerce and Services Portal was also presented, a new initiative of the municipality within the scope of its promotion strategy of the local economy, which created a true showcase online of entrepreneurship in the municipality. Free of charge, all businesses in the county are now just a click away.

This year, the 20 square meters of the fair grounds were completely filled with 18 different spaces: among which the Sítio do Figo, in honor of the guest of honor, Aldeia Serrana, heart of the Fair, which houses the treasure of handicrafts and local products, the Meeting of Flavors, the gastronomy place, a real temptation for the senses, the Picadeiro, in this edition with an even more full of equestrian art program or the Sítio dos Curiosos, a space for children's entertainment, which is a paradise for children families.

There was also the Animal Farm, Praça do Município, the Meeting of Crafts, the Market goes to the Fair, the Wine Farm, the Serra and Barrocal Gardens, the Praça da Fun, the Casa do Artesão, which was visited at Feira da Serra for the first time; and Street Área, Estação da Feira, which once again sets up a meeting with various environmental and tourist projects, accompanied by proposals from Street Food.

This year, reusable cups were introduced and the balance is “positive”. "Public membership has contributed to a substantial reduction in disposable plastics on the premises," says the municipality.

In this edition, where the presence of foreign visitors was notable, it is also important to highlight a «huge increase in advance ticket sales through online ticket offices».

In 2019, the stages of Feira da Serra received local, regional, national and international artists.

Calema (25th), Gipsy Kings (26th), HMB (27) and “Cantar Amália” (28).

"The moment of assessment of this edition is also the moment when preparations for the 2020 edition are started, which will once again seek to present a diversified program in an area that is increasingly adapted to the needs of participants and visitors", concludes Chamber of São Brás.
