The exhibition “Walk through the History of the Portimão Riverside Zone”, organized by the Group of Friends of the Portimão Museum, will be inaugurated on August 10, at 19 pm, at Praça Manuel Teixeira Gomes.
The open-air exhibition, which has a close collaboration with the Parish Council, the Museum and the City Council, can be seen until 29 September.
"Encourager of various civilizational, economic and cultural encounters, this place of "departures and arrivals", located on the right bank of the Arade, was being designed and transformed into its current urban form, through the use of land conquered from the river", explain the exhibition organizers.
«Since always and over time, it has proved to be a port area of strong commercial, maritime and industrial exchange, especially geared towards the fishing industry, with special emphasis on the unloading of fish, one of the most awaited and intensely experienced moments in the old wharf , before the final move of this activity to the new facilities on the left bank of the river, in 1987”, they add.
This is the third edition of a street exhibition project, started by the Grupo de Amigos do Museu de Portimão in 2017, in which, through metal panels and large photographs, the resident population, other visitors and tourists, «are surprised and confronted with an unexpected, but pleasant, meeting moment, with images that marked the historical and social evolution of Portimão and, in this case, with this dynamic area located by the river».
“Walking through History” is a proposal for exhibitions that “also intends to strengthen the community's identity, enhance the city and the Municipality, as a cultural and leisure destination, providing, in an informal way, a relaxed journey through time, between memories and experiences resulting from an Atlantic and fluvial geography, which has historically characterized this Municipality», adds the GAMP.
