Fine Arts students reinvent Castro Marim's traditional arts

The young people were received this Monday, July 15th, by the municipal executive

12 students from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon are already in Castro Marim to, until the 25th of July, reinvent the traditional arts of this municipality.

The young people were received this Monday, July 15th, by the municipal executive and will remain in the parishes of Castro Marim and Odeleite.

During the next ten days, the 12 students will get to know the Castro Marim saltpans and the entire process of artisanal extraction of salt and flower and contact with various types of handicrafts and art that exist in the municipality, such as tabua, weaving, enterprise , bobbins, painting, iron sculpture and typography.

Working individually or in groups, participating students must develop artistic projects that enhance and respect the culture and heritage of Castro Marim, physically leaving objects or community interaction projects on site, which will involve organizing an exhibition at Casa do Sal, in Castro Marim.

RésVés is the 9th activity of the artistic residency cycle of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon, whose work involves linking tradition with originality, respecting local culture and heritage, but trying to instill new readings in it, in an approach multidisciplinary, which includes Multimedia Art, Sculpture, Contemporary Photography and Curatorship.

The main objective is to value and promote artistic production as an engine for economic development, combating social exclusion and improving the quality of life of communities, through cultural training and an increase in self-esteem.

ResVés is a project developed in a partnership between the University of Lisbon, the Parish Council of Odeleite and the Municipality of Castro Marim, a municipal investment within the scope of the preservation and social and cultural reintegration of the municipality's intangible heritage.
