The “Caimão” dredger has already been removed from the entrance to Barra de Faro/ Oh, where it had sunk on the 5th of June. The vessel, which was about 30 meters deep, was recovered this weekend and is already moored at the pier.

On June 5st, this dredger sank when trying to enter the bar, when coming from Tavira. At the time, Cortes Lopes, captain of the Port of Faro and commander of the Southern Maritime Zone, revealed to the Sul Informação that the dredger, 14 meters long, “was being pulled by a tugboat”, when, “it adorned the entrance area of the bar”.

The vessel had a crew member on board, who was rescued by the Maritime Police, unharmed.

On that day, the bar was closed to navigation, as a precaution. The normality of circulation was reset the next day, June 6, following the analysis made by the Maritime Police divers, who "visually confirmed the exact location of the dredger, at a depth of 26 meters, approximately in the same area where its sinking was seen".

However, the company Sofaeia, the owner of the dredger, was notified to remove the vessel from the entrance of Barra Faro/Olhão, having been forced to pay a deposit.

The work has now been completed, with the “Caimão” dredger being successfully removed.

The same luck did not have its counterpart “Brasinho”, also from the Sofaeia company, which turned around in Barra da Armona in February 2018. The vessel was put back in the correct position, but it was never removed from the site.
