Cortelha returns to serving Manjares Serranos

Admission is free

Bean dinner or rooster stew with potatoes are some of the Manjares Serranos that the village of Cortelha, in the interior of the municipality of Loulé, will serve on the 3rd of August.

It is already a tradition on the first Saturday of August to hold, in Cortelha, the party dedicated to mountain gastronomy, which also includes the Folklore Festival of Serra do Caldeirão, which this year includes the participation of 4 folklore and ethnographic groups.

In addition to the host group, the Serra do Caldeirão Ethnographic Group – Cortelha, the event will make known the dances and songs from various parts of the country, with the performance of the Ethnographic Dances and Songs of Barra Cheia, from the municipality of Moita, from Velha Guarda of the Folklore of Nazaré and the Rancho Folclórico de Vinhó, in the municipality of Gouveia.

In parallel, it will be possible for visitors to taste the typical dishes of the Algarve mountainous area, such as the chickpea dinner, rooster stew with potatoes, lamb with chickpeas, stewed wild boar, corn porridge or assorted snacks such as pig's ear, chorizo and homemade ham , always accompanied by the varied regional algarvian sweets and medronho brandy.

As usual, there will be no lack of traditional donuts, also made locally, according to the skill and knowledge of the past.

After dinner there will be a ball to the sound of Valter Cabrita's accordion and it will also be possible to appreciate and purchase handicraft items from the artisans of Caldeirão, present at the party.

The event will take place in the renovated Cortelha multi-sport pavilion, an area that is increasingly better prepared to host this initiative of the Association of Friends of Cortelha, «which counts on the unequaled dedication of the people of the land, an essential factor to ensure that over these 19 consecutive years the Manjares Serranos have conquered a prominent place in the gastronomic and folkloric calendar of the region», says the organization.

The Manjares Serranos and the Serra do Caldeirão Folklore Festival have free entry and are supported by the Municipality of Loulé, the Parish Council of Salir, the Algarve Tourism Board, INATEL and the School of Salir.
