Algarvio Samuel Caldeira is the first yellow jersey of Volta a Portugal

Caldeira won the prologue and part of yellow for the 1st stage

The Algarve rider Samuel Caldeira, W52 – FC Porto runner, won, this Wednesday, 31 July, the prologue of the 6-kilometre Volta a Portugal bicycle race, held in Viseu.

Samuel Caldeira took just 7 minutes, 28 seconds and 13 hundredths to complete the prologue and became the first yellow jersey in the Volta a Portugal.

Gian Friesecke (Swiss Racing Academy) and Gustavo Veloso (W52-FC Porto) were just a few hundredths off the Algarve.

On the part of the teams in the region, Vicente de Mateos was the best placed. The cyclist from Aviludo/Louletano was in 13th place, with 7 minutes and 37 seconds. Alejandro Marque was the best in Sporting/Tavira (17th), completing the stage in 7 minutes and 39 seconds.

This Thursday, 1st of August, the first stage will be disputed, between Miranda do Corvo and Leiria, in a total of 174,4 kilometers.
