10 tips to prevent back injuries related to diving accidents

Anyone witnessing an accident should immediately contact 112 and call an ambulance. Must not move the person

Diving accidents are one of the main causes of spinal injuries, causing a very significant impact on the quality of life of the victim, who can become quadriplegic or paralyzed in the legs, and in more serious cases, can die. Young people under 35 are the main risk group.

Diving injuries usually occur when the head hits the ground or rock. In addition to the low depth of the location (be it beach or pool), diving accidents can be related to the adoption of risky behavior and incorrect posture during the execution of the dive.

If you witness an accident and/or suspect a spinal injury, you should immediately contact 112 and call an ambulance. You must not move the person, as any movement on an already damaged spine can cause permanent damage.

To prevent risks to your health, take the following advice into account:

>>Do not dive in an unknown area and in unguarded or unlit places;

>>Stay in the supervised area at all times;

>>Check the depth of the site and do not dive in shallow water (less than twice your height);

>>At sea, “don't throw yourself headfirst”. Always enter first floor;

>>In the pool, choose the place where you will dive according to the location's depth indications, always respecting the signs;

>>Make sure there are no obstacles where you are going to dive, such as rocks or sandbars;

>>Dive with arms outstretched and hands in front to protect the head;

>>Avoid risky behavior, such as diving backwards or running;

>>Do not drink alcoholic beverages before diving;

>>In the pools, do not dive near other people.
