The parliamentarian went public to regret that the "only additional measure" foreseen in the scope of the reinforcement of the National Health Service during the summer, in the Algarve, is a solution that "has been adopted in previous years without any results".
During a parliamentary hearing at the Assembly of the Republic, José Carlos Barros questioned Marta Temido, the Minister of Health, about the measures that are being taken or being developed to guarantee the reinforcement of the Algarve's health units, in the summer period that will begin.
The minister only replied that «the order with incentives for professionals who choose to work in the Algarve during the summer had already been signed», which includes the issue of accommodation.
“It is difficult to understand this insistence on a measure that has proven not to work. It is to insist on error. It is not by chance that the minister referred to it as an act of faith, saying verbatim that she hopes that this year will be more successful than in previous years», criticized José Carlos Barros.
Roque da Cunha, general secretary of the Independent Union of Physicians, had already dubbed the measure "political marketing", in statements to the Sul Informação, as the PSD deputy recalled in his public position.
For the social-democratic deputy "the reality in the Algarve has been characterized by a painful degradation of the conditions for providing health care", considering "the lack of a contingency plan for the summer period is worrying", bearing in mind, from the outset, «the tourism specificity of the region and the serious problems that health units have faced in previous years during this period in which the population present in the Algarve almost tripled».
