Portimão will have an aftermath brigade in its municipal rural firefighting device this summer.
The creation of this new team, one of the measures provided for in the Municipal Operational Plan (POM) for Rural Fires in Portimão, for the year 2019, began to be prepared in May.
The new brigade will be "directed towards operations to consolidate the extinction of rural fires that reach larger dimensions, and whose perimeter deserves a dedicated unit to reinforce measures leading to the non-reactivation of the fire, preventing possible re-ignition", according to the Portimão Chamber.
This special unit will consist of the City Council's Forestry Sapadores team, a Firefighters team and a tracking machine and «will be supported by the use of manual and mechanical tools, complemented by light combat vehicles, and a drone with thermal camera to identify any imperceptible hot spots'.
"It is also worth noting the inclusion of burning operations that could provide support to the Commander of Relief Operations (COS) in the possible use of fire in suppression actions, a fundamental technique in larger theaters of operations," added the autarchy.
Throughout June, the operational training of the brigade will take place “ensuring, in this way, the readiness of this brigade for the critical period of the Defense of the Forest Against Fire (DFCI)”.
The Municipality of Portimão will officially present this new unit on July 1, at 18 pm, at the facilities of the Mexilhoeira Grande Gimnodesportivo, «following the visit of the municipal executive to preventive work in the county's rural space, in anticipation of the historically more period. vulnerable to the occurrence of fires'.
The Seasonal Detachment for the Defense of Forest Against Fires (DFCI) of Senhora do Verde (Mexilhoeira Grande) has also been active since 15 May, «instituted for the critical period since the summer of 2014, where a team is permanently prepositioned. of five Firefighters and a combat vehicle».
