There is a trip scheduled for happiness and part of Milreu

This will be the last lecture of the 2019 cycle of "Amatores in Situ"

The Roman Ruins of Milreu, in Faro, will do “The Journey to Happiness” on Friday, at 18 pm, in what will be the last lecture of the cycle “Amatores in Situ”, by Leonor Santa Bárbara, from Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

“One of the genres that flourished in the late Greek tradition, from the Hellenistic period onwards, was the novel. Differently from the Latin novel, the first is designed for young married couples. With similar structures, the various novels show the adventures and misadventures that the young couple must go through, until the final reunion. Since the Hellenistic world is vast and open, travel is always a central part of these adventures», according to Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, which promotes the cycle in partnership with the University of Algarve, the Portuguese Association of Classical Studies and the CÍVIS Association – Association for the Deepening of Citizenship.

«Our objective is to show to what extent this trip strengthens the relationship between the two young people, contributing to greater maturity and consequent happiness. For this, we will use novels like As Efesíacas, or Antia e Habrócomes, by Xenophon of Ephesus», he adds.

The 5th edition of the cycle “Amatores in Situ” is one of the initiatives that are part of DiVaM – Dynamization and Valorization of Monuments – cultural program organized by Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, this year with the theme “The Journey”.

As with all initiatives carried out under this program, the lecture “A Journey to Happiness” is free.
