The Hermitage of Santo António do Alto, in Faro, will reopen to the public on the 13th of June, after completion of the conservation and restoration works that began in mid-January.

The reopening ceremony, which takes place precisely on Saint Anthony's Day, as Sul Informação I had already advanced, starts at 17 pm and will be marked with the blessing of the space, by Father Rui Guerreiro and Father Oleg Trushko and also with a guided tour by Professor Francisco Lameira.

According to the Chamber of Faro, «the Hermitage of Santo António do Alto, one of the most emblematic buildings in the city, will resume its role in the rich heritage offer of the municipality, more beautiful, accessible to the faithful and available to integrate the tourist itinerary».

The intervention included the recovery of facades, the inner courtyard and the «incredible tower, from which you can see the entire municipality».

This arises from a project by two citizens who, within the scope of the national participatory budget, and with the collaboration of the Regional Directorate of
Culture, propose to collaborate in the revitalization of the Antonino Museum.

The reopening of the hermitage will also be marked by the signing of a cooperation protocol between the Municipality of Faro and the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, which aims at collaborating with partners in organizing the offer of cultural and tourist services associated with boosting the Hermitage of Santo do Alto, creating a pole of local and regional interest with strategies that go beyond the seasonality and contribute to the sustainability of the cultural heritage of the Algarve.

The terrace of the chapel of Santo António will be one of the points of interest of the Açoteia festival, which takes place on the 21st and 22nd of June.
