Concerts by the sea liven up Summer in Portimão

There will be one concert per month

Sounds of cuba, classical music and jazz will be played by the sea, at Praia da Rocha, in Portimão, in the months of June, July and August.

The event “Música à Beira Mar at Praia da Rocha – Portugal Five Stars 2019” will take three concerts to the sands of this popular beach area in Portimo, in front of the Hotel Júpiter and Hotel da Rocha, performed by many other orchestras, with very different repertoires.

On June 22, the Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra (OFP), directed by conductor Osvaldo Ferreira and accompanied by Cuban singer and composer Eme Alfonso, will give a show that will have «a festive, relaxed and informal logic, in a joyful celebration of the Solstice of Summer”, according to the City Council of Portimão.

«Eme uses his roots combining them with electronic sounds, world percussions and Afro-Cuban legends and will bring, for the first time, his show to Portugal, in a perfect symbiosis between the OFP and his band, presenting some of his repertoire. latest album “Voy”, in parallel with other hits of Cuban and Caribbean music», added the municipality.

On the 20th of July, a Saturday, it will be the turn of the Orquestra Clássica do Sul (OCS) to present a program included in the “Ciclo Classicos Light”.

Maestro John Avery will lead the musicians in a show that fits more eclectic repertoires, maintaining the essence of the fun function of music, combined with an exceptional quality. After all, as the OCS illustrates, «classical music, as a form of artistic and intellectual expression, has never been far removed from lighter and more carefree music. If, in the XNUMXth century, 'fun' music had its heyday with the Strauss family in Vienna, in the XNUMXth century great composers dedicated much of their production to the Seventh Art and this also took advantage of a large part of the production of composers from the past».

The cycle of Música à Beira-Mar ends on Friday, August 23, with the concert “Elvis Estravaganza”, by the Orquestra de Jazz do Algarve (OJA), conducted by Maestro Hugo Alves.

«Elvis was an artist who didn't just stick with Rock & Roll, passing through several languages in a journey that would end abruptly in 1977. Two of Elvis' most emblematic concerts were undoubtedly the one in Las Vegas, in 1970, and the one in Hawaii, in 1973 – the first concert in the world to be broadcast via satellite. In these concerts, Elvis was already reviewing his entire career, using an almost Big Band on stage, or even bigger», according to Câmara de Portimão.

The Algarve Jazz Orchestra is inspired by these concerts and «invites Selvis Prestley to relive Elvis and his career that touches us all today. Jailhouse Rock, Don't be Cruel, CC Rider, I Got a Woman, Always On My Mind, Suspicious Minds and so many other themes will do justice to the King and his career».

All concerts are free of charge.
