CDS-PP wants to know why pediatricians have not yet been hired for CHUA

Centrists want guarantees that the situation of closure of the Maternity of Portimão will not be repeated

CDS-PP MPs João Rebelo, Teresa Caeiro and Isabel Galriça Neto want to know why, being recognized by the Board of Directors of the University Hospital Center of the Algarve (CHUA) that, in order to solve the problem of the lack of pediatricians, it will be necessary to resort to medical service providers, the problem still persists.

The deputies, in a question addressed to the Ministry of Health, also questioned the "measures that have already been taken to put these contracts into effect".

Centrist parliamentarians also want to know if Marta Temido, Minister of Health, "is in a position to guarantee that this situation will not happen again and when the hiring of pediatric specialists for the Hospital de Portimão."

In the last two questions, the CDS-PP deputies question about the measures that are being taken to guarantee that access to health is ensured for the entire population served by the Hospital de Portimão, which "clearly is not happening".

The CDS-PP questions appear in the following of the closing of the Hospital de Portimão maternity hospital between last Friday, June 7th, and today, June 11.

As reported by Sul Informação, the CHUA administration recognizes the lack of these specialists and the difficulty in hiring them, so that some steps were taken without success, including the request for temporary assignment or punctual sharing of pediatricians with various hospitals of the National Service of Health (SNS), more than 50 pediatricians were contacted through companies providing medical services, as well as several competitions were held that were deserted due to lack of candidates».

The CHUA even guarantees that it is "fully available to immediately hire pediatricians" and adds that "under the national competition for admission of medical personnel for the hospital area currently underway, two vacancies for pediatricians are available for the Center University Hospital of the Algarve».

The CDS-PP faces these facts "with great concern, considering it is absolutely necessary and a priority to ensure both access to health and the quality of healthcare provision to the population, which, in this case, is clearly not happening" .
