Albufeira Fishing Professionals Association already has a new multipurpose room

José Apolinário, Secretary of State for Fisheries, attended the inauguration

The Albufeira Fishing Professionals Association (APPA) already has a new multipurpose room.

Every year, APPA brings together the fishing community of Albufeira for a convivial lunch that marks the National Fisherman's Day, which is celebrated on May 31st. This year, the date was adapted for a good reason: local authorities and association officials made a point of making the anniversary coincide with the inauguration of the new Multipurpose Room.

It is a space owned by Docapesca, with which APPA has a transfer protocol and which is used by the Association to promote meetings, training and guided tours.

This room now gains a new comfort and dignity, as a result of the intervention carried out, fully funded by the Albufeira Town Hall, allowing for the exhibition and preservation of the APPA estate, which aims to enhance the history of the local fishing community.

At the back of the space, there is a set of installations where it is possible to appreciate various objects, heritage of the local fishing community, as well as a set of photos that tell the story of this community. The room is prepared for meetings and training sessions, with access to a projector and screen, where films and photographs alluding to the theme can be shown.

«With this intervention, it will be possible to collect more pieces from our fishermen and families, preserve them and show them to those who visit us», explains Miguel Reis, president of APPA, adding that «with these conditions we will certainly promote a richer work with schools and with the many tourists who are already looking for us and for whom we organize small sessions that are very appreciated».

For José Carlos Rolo, mayor of Albufeira, «this space intends to meet the needs of the Association, adding working conditions that visibly did not exist or were limited».

The mayor reinforces that «this is also a good investment in promoting our collective memory because this space will certainly captivate the collection of more objects and help to tell this magnificent story that is that of this community in Albufeira».

The Secretary of State for Fisheries José Apolinário stressed the importance of "local power so that these apparently small initiatives can be implemented, but enormous in their meaning and that help to create better working conditions for those who use this space".

The inauguration was preceded by a convivial lunch, which brought together around two hundred guests, in an already usual event, which also had the support of the Albufeira Town Hall.
