António Aleixo names the street in the Vila Sol development

Poet was born in Vila Real de Santo António, but died in Loulé

António Aleixo is going to name a street in the Vila Sol development, in Morgadinho, parish of Quarteira, with the ceremony to unveil the toponymic plaque to be held on the 28th of June, at 18 pm.

António Aleixo (Vila Real de Santo António 1899 – Loulé 1949) is one of the Algarve's most prominent poets and the greatest Portuguese popular poet, standing out for his irony and social criticism always present in his verses. He left us as a legacy a unique poetic work in the Portuguese literary panorama of the first half of the XNUMXth century.

This artery includes a set of 29 new toponyms, as well as the respective police numbers of each artery, which were recently approved for this area, and which include other notable Portuguese poets such as the Nobel Prize for Literature José Saramago, Eugénio de Andrade, the altense Cândido Guerreiro or the poet king Al-Mutamid.

The Loulé Council says that “it has considered toponymy and police numbers as two fundamental instruments for territorial organization and for the quality of life of the municipality's citizens, allowing for guidance and communication between people and the faster arrival of the means of help".

«The toponymy also functions as a record of the history of localities by perpetuating old names used and that are lost in time, also evoking local, national or international facts, as well as distinguished personalities», he concludes.
