Students from Portimão walked on the beaches of Alvor looking for The Suspects of Customs

Activity had the partnership of the Environment Division of the Portimão Chamber

About 200 students from the Bemposta Schools Group, from Portimão, visited the beaches of Alvor, on June 5, World Environment Day, in the 2nd stage of the project. monitoring litter on beaches “The usual suspects”, an activity developed in partnership with the Environment Division of the Portimão City Council.

The students worked in teams made up of 7th year students from the Bemposta EBS, who guided their colleagues from the five 1st year classes of the Grouping schools, within the scope of the Citizenship and Development discipline.

The 10th and 11th grade students participated in the activity at Praia do Barranco das Canas. The garbage collected on the sand of Praia de Alvor Poente, about 2,5 kilos, is on display at the Bemposta EBS in an exhibition that aims to raise awareness in the entire school community about the problem of garbage on beaches and in the sea.

In this project, sessions were also held in the 1st year classes, within the scope of UNESCO Associated Schools: together with the School Libraries, the book “O Dia Em Que O Mar Disappeared” (José Fanha; Gailivro) was worked on, included in the project “Books that make us grow”.

This project has been developed throughout the school year in 1st cycle classes - UNESCO Chair in Biodiversity and Conservation for Sustainable Development at the University of Coimbra.
