The exhibition “The combatants of the municipality of Silves in World War I” will be on display until the 31st in the Assembly hall of the Parish Council of Alcantarilha.
This exhibition, organized by the Municipality of Silves, through the Municipal Archive, is the result of a survey of all the Silves who participated in the First World War and who, as part of the Portuguese Expeditionary Corps (CEP), were mobilized to France.
«A list is presented, divided by parishes, which contains the name of the combatant, rank and service he performed, the date of embarkation and disembarkation in Lisbon and observations (for example, if he received praise, if he was medaled and decorated, if he was injured , if he participated in the Battle of La Lys and still died in combat)», according to the Chamber of Silves.
The exhibition will take place in all the parishes of Silves. After Alcantarilha, the exhibition will be on display in the Assembly room of the Parish Council of Pêra, in June.
