Change of polling place in Lagoa is causing confusion

New location not properly announced

The change of polling place in Lagoa, from the former Jacinto Correia School, now CEFLA, in the city center, to the new EB2,3 Jacinto Correia school, near the Municipal Auditorium, is causing some confusion among the county's voters.

The change of location was not properly announced by official entities, namely the City Council, and, throughout the day, such as the Sul Informação he found on the spot, dozens of people have gone to the old school, thinking that, as in recent decades, this is where they can still exercise their right to vote.

Maria Júlia and her husband, with a cane, were already carrying voter cards and identity cards in hand when they arrived at CEFLA and found the gate closed. “So where do you vote?”, they asked the security guard, who informed them of the new location. "That's so far away…", sighed Maria Júlia. "My husband can't get there and we don't have a car," he lamented. «Getting here was difficult…». She ended up being the reporter for the Sul Informação giving them a ride to school and then back home, in the old center of Lagoa.

This change is apparently not even known to the Ministry of Internal Administration itself. At the online service, accessible by computer or smartphone, for consulting registration books, when voters at the county seat try to know where to vote, the information given to them continues to be: «Building of the Old School EB 2,3 Jacinto Correia (CEFLA), Rua Dr. Fonseca de Almeida, 8400-346 LAGOA» .

The same online survey on the MAI website service indicates that the information about the place of voting is “provided by the respective local authority”.

At the gate of the former school/CEFLA, the Lagoa Council put up a poster (see photo above) where you can read that «in Lagoa, the usual polling station, located in CEFLA, moves to EB 23 at the site of Vales».

The same poster adds that "this information is aimed not only at the next European parliamentary elections in 2019, which will be held in Portugal on May 26, but also at all elections to be held from that date onwards."

The reason for the change of the traditional polling place in the city of Lagoa has to do with the recent installation of the Commercial Court Court in the CEFLA wing where polling stations were previously installed.
