Lagoa Trade Court is already in operation, but judgments start only in September

Câmara de Lagoa invested 380 thousand euros in the new structure of the District of Faro

The new Trade Court of Lagoa, which was visited this Tuesday by the Minister of Justice, started to function today, but the trials only start in September, at the beginning of the new judicial year.

Installed in the former EB 2,3 School in Lagoa, the new court dedicated to issues of economic justice represents an investment of 380 thousand euros guaranteed by the City Council, which owns the building, as revealed to the Sul Informação the mayor of Lagoon Francisco Martins.

"All the civil construction works necessary for the adaptation of the building to its new functions were ensured by the municipality, including electricity, floors, ceilings, paintings", added the mayor.

For this very reason, minister Francisca van Dunen was keen to stress, in her intervention, that this “project is an example of the virtuous cooperation between local and central authorities”. It was possible to "join wills and synergies to improve the spaces of Justice", added the official, who was accompanied by the Secretary of State for Justice.

«The premises of the Court of Commerce [in Olhão] were sparse and in poor condition», despite being the only ones in the whole Algarve, in other words, in the Comarca of Faro, dedicated to Economic Justice, stressed the minister. Therefore, it was understood that, even for «reasons related to accessibility», it would be useful to open a new center of the Court of Commerce in the Barlavento Algarvio, ending up with the idea of being in Lagoa.

This Tuesday, the new diploma approved by the Government came into force, which provides for some adjustments to the Judiciary Map, one of which is, precisely, the installation of this Commercial Court in Lagoa.

«Today, April 23, is the day on which the new judgments created by that diploma are installed. It was supposed to be in January, but it was not possible due to some difficulties related to both the building and the movements of magistrates and justice officials», explained the minister Francisca van Dunen to journalists.

The official also underlined that "the availability of the municipalities, for us, is essential, as they know how to better identify the existing spaces."

Turning to Francisco Martins, mayor of Lagoa, the minister stressed that the municipal executive «was always available from the start and unconditionally supporting this project».

The new Commercial Court of the District of Faro, located in Lagoa, has 10 court employees and is equipped with modern and functional facilities, including two courtrooms equipped with everything that is most modern.

On the way out, the minister and the secretary of Justice also spoke with a group of about two dozen activists from the Union of Judicial Employees, who were awaiting the visit of the government official, having exchanged a few words with them about their union demands.
