Europeans 2019: PS wins in all municipalities in the Algarve, Bloco is the 3rd force

BE and PAN guaranteed great performances, also in Algarve lands

The Socialist Party, as at national level, also won in the Algarve, where it obtained 34,18% of the votes cast in ballot boxes, in the European Elections this Sunday, 26 May. The socialists were still the winners in all the councils in the region, even those governed at the municipal level by other political forces (PSD or CDU).

As can be seen in the infographics produced and published by Sul Informação, at regional level, the PSD was the second most voted party, but at a great distance from the socialists, with 16,9% of the votes.

It is followed by the Left Block, the third most voted in the region (12,94%), but which, in some municipalities (Portimão, Olhão and Lagos), was even the second most chosen force by voters.

The CDU was the fourth most voted force (7,29%), but closely followed by the great surprise of these elections, even at the national level, the PAN, which obtained a regional percentage of 6,15%.

The PAN achieved expressive votes mainly in the most urban and populous municipalities, being even the 4th most chosen force in Lagos (7,06%) and Loulé (5,88).

As for the Socialists, who, as we have seen, won in the Algarve and in all its municipalities, obtained their most expressive vote in Alcoutim (53,67%) and the lowest in Albufeira (29,54%), even so. , with about 9% more votes than those obtained by the PSD in this municipality.

In Lagoa, where the only Algarvean on the PS lists comes from, the lawyer and president of the Municipal Assembly José Águas da Cruz, the Socialists obtained 37,51% of voters' preferences, leaving the PSD a long way away (16,55, XNUMX%).

Confirming the stride that the CDU gave at national level, in these European Elections, the coalition only made a shine in Vila Real de Santo António, where it got second place (14,68%), ahead of the PSD that even governs the local Chamber . Communists were third in Silves (with 12,65%, after PS and PSD) and in Alcoutim (8,35%).

What about abstention? Once again (and while waiting for the final results at national level), the Algarve was one of those who missed the most when it came to going to the polls. The abstention rate in the Algarve stood at 73,08%. In other words, three quarters of the Algarve's voters did not go to vote… In the country as a whole, abstention should be between 69 and 70%.
