Dredging in Santa Luzia removes 7 tons of garbage from the estuary

Garbage proceeded to «treatment in dump»

The dredging operation of the maritime access to the floating piers at the Santa Luzia fishing port, in Tavira, has already been completed and allowed the removal of approximately 7 tons of garbage from the Ria Formosa.

The works, which motivated an investment of close to 150 thousand euros, allow "the restoration of safety, navigability and parking conditions for fishermen's vessels", according to the public company.

The residues that were removed from the existing basin in front of this fishing village of Tavira «went for treatment in the dump». The sand collected will be used to «feed the Praia da Terra Estreita, in accordance with the guidelines of the APA/ARH».

Docapesca was the target of much criticism, recently, due to the garbage that washed up on the coast in Ilha Deserta (Cabanas), which was associated with the dredging carried out by this company in the Gilão river.
