Southern Rally Championship accelerates in Alcoutim

Qualifying races are held on Sunday morning

19 teams will compete in the Alcoutim Rally, next weekend, 18th and 19th of May. The race counts towards the third round of the Southern Rally Championship.

The rally is organized by the Clube Automóvel do Algarve and, among those present, are confirmed the title champions and current leaders of the championship, Márcio Marreiros/Rui Serra, who will have, among others, the opposition of the duos Carlos Martins/Daniel Amaral (the pilot winner of the last race and second in the championship accounts), Paulo Santos/Luís Santos and Fernando Peres/José Pedro Silva, «here with the former three-time national rally champion wanting to avenge the bad luck suffered in the first races», according to the Portuguese Federation of Automobile and Karting (FPAK).

«Also interesting to follow will be the progress of Eduardo Antunes/Hugo Bentes and Ricardo Filipe/Fernando Almeida», adds the federation.

In the two drive wheels, favoritism is pointed out to João Monteiro/Gonçalo Assunção, behind the wheel of a Toyota Corolla GTI, who were the fastest in the two previous races.

The strongest opposition should come from the Citroen Saxo Cup by Filipe Silva/Diogo Elias and the Peugeot 206 GTI by Paulo Anselmo/Eduardo Gonçalves.

Within these teams, FPAK also highlights the return of José Martins to navigation, changing the steering wheel of his Citroen Saxo for the right seat of José Bonito Ramos' Peugeot 207. A final note for the presence of the BMW 325 IX by José Manuel Batista/Jorge Rita and Rui Rijo/João Borrega, both premiering in 2019.

The rally's program foresees the reconnaissance and administrative and technical checks on Saturday. On Sunday morning, the competitors will face two passages in the qualifying tests of Laborato, Barrada and Pero Dias. The podium ceremony takes place in the early afternoon in Martim Longo.
