Students from Olhão went to Greece to participate in a project against bullying

The “Be Allies Not Bullies” project involves six countries – Portugal, Turkey, Italy, Slovakia, Denmark and Greece

Five students and two teachers, from the José Carlos da Maia School, in Olhão, were, from 6 to 10 May, on the island of Crete (Greece) to participate in an Erasmus+ project, dedicated to the theme of bullying.

The “Be Allies Not Bullies” project, which involves six countries – Portugal, Turkey, Italy, Slovakia, Denmark and Greece – aims to develop effective anti-bullying action plans and strategies, provide support to teachers in order to identify and prevent the bullying and also promote activities that foster positive interpersonal relationships.

“The week was filled with a very rich and varied program. However, the work carried out at the school by Greek teachers and students, the mediation of peers (conflict resolution strategy) and the lecture on bullying at the University of Retimno stand out», says Escola José Carlos da Maia.

With regard to contact with Greek culture and civilization, language classes and traditional Greek dances were provided, as well as the opportunity to taste some dishes of the local cuisine, such as the moussaka and the souvlaki and also the visit to several emblematic places of this island, among which the port capital of Iráklio, Knossos, the biggest archaeological site of the Bronze Age, the Island of Espinalonga, the beautiful cities of Chania and Elunda, the small fishing village of Placa and the traditional village of Arolithos.

«This trip, which enabled a very healthy and enriching interaction between students and teachers from different countries and in which the sharing of knowledge and knowledge, the experience of new experiences and the exchange of ideas and suggestions were constantly present, will be forever in our memory of all participants'.
