720 kilos of Japanese oyster (crassostrea gigas) were seized this Wednesday, May 15, in the Ria de Alvor, in the town of Vale da Lama, an area of ​​prohibited capture due to the possibility of contamination by toxins. 

"The seizure was carried out as part of an inspection aimed at controlling the transport and marketing of live bivalve molluscs, with the military intercepting a vehicle carrying the oysters, without being accompanied by the registration document for the transport of live bivalve molluscs", says the GNR

This document serves to prove the capture site and that the bivalves are destined for a scrubber, in order to ensure that they are suitable for consumption and free of toxins.

This action resulted in the identification of a 70-year-old man and the company responsible for transporting and marketing the live bivalve molluscs. prohibited, which corresponds to a maximum fine of 44 890 euros, since it is a legal person.

The oysters, because they are alive, were returned to their natural habitat, thus preventing them from entering the commercial circuit, avoiding risks to public health.
