Solidarity tournament collects 600 kilos of food for institutions in Olhão

Karate Tournament Municipality of Olhão had, for the first time, an adapted karate strand

More than 300 athletes from all over the country and abroad participated in the Municipality of Olhão Solidarity Tournament in Karaté, which took place on March 30 at the Municipal Pavilion of this municipality and allowed to raise around 600 kilos of food, destined for institutions from Olhão.

The tournament brings together young athletes up to 15 years of age, from clubs from North to South of Portugal, Spain and England.

«As karate is a sport of inclusion, the tournament involved, in this fourth edition, the Parakarate level, disputed for the first time in the whole Algarve, having participated athletes with physical disabilities, cerebral palsy, autism and trisomy 21», according to the Chamber of Olhão.

Each of the registered athletes and the public was asked to deliver two food items. In the end, the products collected were divided by the Vaneus Association and the Conference of Our Lady of the Rosary of the Society of S. Vicente de Paulo.

The Municipality Olhão Solidarity Tournament is organized by the Karate Section of the Casa do Benfica in Olhão and has as partners the Casa do Benfica in Olhão, the Parish Council of Olhão, the City Council and the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth.
