Algarve startups face off in a boxing ring in Portimão

Entrepreneurs in the region are challenged to enter a ring and lead a battle for the best pitch

Algarvian entrepreneurs will be putting forward business ideas at the “Get in the Ring” event, which Startup Portimão will promote on May 13, at the Portimão Training Center, at the Algarve International Circuit.

The business incubator of the Municipality of Portimão brings this world competition to the Algarve once again. startups «which, in a real boxing ring, challenges entrepreneurs in the region to put themselves face to face, in a kind of battle for the best pitch [presentation]”, according to the Portimonense Chamber.

The national circuit of this competition of startups it will only pass elsewhere in the country, besides Portimão: Ericeira, on the 14th.

To apply, entrepreneurs must have an innovative and scalable business idea/model, a startup with less than 8 years in one of the three areas - technology, tourism and environment and speak fluent English that allows them to do their own pitch and listen to the feedback of the jury. Jochem Cuppen, director and co-founder of “Get In The Ring”, will host the event in Portimão, where the startup The winner will be chosen by the public and by the members of the jury.

The Portuguese final will take place in Ericeira, where the winner from Portimão will compete in a match with the winner from Ericeira. The big winner will participate in the Global Meetup 2019, which this year will take place in Berlin on the 17th, 18th and 19th of June.

«There will be three days of workshops and thematic training sessions that will bring together more than 150 startups and 350 companies, investors and business leaders from around the world with the main objective of opening new opportunities for the startups, help them to grow and become truly sustainable companies», concluded the Câmara de Portimão.
